2019 AFSCME WI Scholarship Winners Announced

The AFSCME Wisconsin Executive Board scholarship committee is proud to annouce the winners of the 2019 AFSCME Council 32 scholarships! 

$3,500.00 Jim Boyd Memorial Scholarship winner: Kiana Jenswold, Daughter of Ann Jenswold- AFSCME Local 655

$3,500.00 Dode Lowe Memorial Scholarship winner: James Alvin, Son of Eric Alvin- AFSCME Local 2634 

$3,500.00 Tom Thornton Memorial Scholarship winner: Jaimie Basina, member of Local 2484

Kiana Jenswold is the daughter of Ann and Greg Jenswold. Kiana graduated from Jefferson High School this June after receiving her Certified Nursing Assistant license while still in high school! Kiana plans to attend UW-Madison for four years on a Pre-Medical track after completing four more years at a medicial college to pursue her dream of becoming a physican. She looks forward to using her education to help communities here in Wisconsin as well as individuals in developing nations through a volunteer capacity. Kianna loves to play soccer and volleyball, create art, and volunter at the public library and hospital in her free time. Hats off to you and best wishes, Kiana! 

James Alvin is the son of Karen Timberlake and Eric Alvin. James is graduating senior at Madison West High School. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Economics and Chemical Engineering. Further afield, he aspires to pursue a PhD in Economics and write novels. When James has free time, he enjoys playing volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and the bassoon. Good luck at UW-Madison and congratulations, James! 

Jaimie Basina is the Vice President of Local 2484 and works as a social worker assisting individuals struggling with mental illness. Due to her perseverence, Jaimie is a first-generation college graduate! Jaimie obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology, pursuing course work to allow her to become a social worker. Jaimie is pursuing her dream of earning a Masters Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She is on path to graduate in July 2020 with her MS. In her free time, Jaimie creates print design, enjoys spending time with her two dogs and working on DIY projects around the house. Keep up the amazing work, Jaimie!
