Tell Your Legislator to Fund the Front Lines!

Our communities need your help!

COVID-19 has stolen 120,000 lives, putting nearly 40 million Americans out of work, and exposing mass injustices in the workplaces and our communities.

To beat COVID-19 and kick-start our economy, we're relying on vital federal funding. Without this funding, Wisconsin faces a budget shortfall and public service workers face layoffs. We can solve this pandemic, but only if we provide aid to states, cities, and towns to increase and sustain public safety and health, education, sanitation and other essential public services.

That's why we're asking you to write Governor Evers, your mayor, county executive, or state representatives to ask that they use their power to encourage Wisconsin's U.S. senators and representatives to fund the front lines and defend vital public services.

Dear [GOVERNOR, MAYOR, COUNTY COMMISSIONER, SUPERINTENDENT]:
We need your help.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to more than 100,000 deaths, stressing an already fragile health care system and leaving more than 40 million Americans out of work.

As front-line public service workers who now face layoffs because of budget shortfalls caused by the pandemic, we have one simple message: America can beat this virus and get our economy moving again, but only if we provide aid to states, cities and towns to increase public safety, public health, education, sanitation, home care, and other essential public services.

Your voice carries a lot of weight. We need you to call our representatives in Washington, D.C. – especially our senators – and urge Congress to pass as much federal aid as possible to states, cities, towns and school boards to fix the budget mess that the coronavirus has caused to prevent essential public services from being gutted.

Here in [STATE, CITY, TOWN, SCHOOL DISTRICT], [Insert a short paragraph about local specifics. For example: Here in Johnstown, city workers provide sanitation and water treatment. We also respond to emergency 9-1-1 calls.]

[Insert a short paragraph on what will happen to your communities if the essential services you provide are cut. What will happen to the people who rely on you to do you job? For example: If these essential services are cut, Johnston residents will see dirtier streets, may see unclean and unsafe drinking water, and longer response times for emergencies.]

It doesn’t have to be this way.
We can beat this pandemic and get our economy moving again, but only if states, cities, towns and school districts get the assistance they need – just like the airlines and other big corporations got help. This isn’t a red state or a blue state issue. This is an American issue.

Please contact our representatives in Washington, D.C. and tell them they must help [STATE, CITY, TOWN, SCHOOL DISTRICT] keep providing essential public services. We will do the same and we look forward to sharing what we hear.

Sincerely,
[LOCAL PRESIDENT]
