Valerie serves AFSCME WI as the Communications Director.

Before joining the AFSCME WI team, Valerie was an organizer for the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO in the Fox Valley region, lobbied against TPP/Fast Track Legislation in Nebraska, and started her own organization to assist survivors of workplace harassment and violence.

Valerie is a fourth generation unionist and proud Wisconsinite. She gained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, majoring in Political Science and International Studies with an emphasis in Middle East and North African affairs. Four years after graduating, Valerie returned to her alma mater to resist UWSP administration's attempt to slash thirteen majors including English, history, and philosophy. As a lead organizer, the #SaveOurMajors movement gained international press coverage including the New York Times, Forbes, Washington Post, and the Today's Show. Valerie helped lead a 300 participant sit-in and mobilized grassroots leaders across Wisconsin to resist austerity, fight for access to higher education, and support those who provide quality services to our communities.

In her free time, Valerie enjoys gardening, reading poetry, trying new recipies, and painting.
