SUBJECT: LINCOLN HILLS CLOSURE BILL DOES NOT ADDRESS REAL ISSUES

It has been an alarming few weeks at Lincoln Hills with the headlines to match. Between the assault on Pandora Lobacz, the revelation of an attempted murder of a staff member and an investigatory team being disbanded because they “found too much” – Lincoln Hills has been on the cover of newspapers across the state.

Attacks On Staff Continue At Lincoln Hills

Last week, Pandora Lobacz, a teacher at Lincoln Hills School for Boys was attacked by an inmate at Lincoln Hills. During her class, the inmate, who has been involved in prior staff assaults, became agitated and took control of her classroom. After calling security and receiving a busy signal, Pandora was confronted by the inmate who punched her in the face and knocked her out.

Wisconsin “gerrymandering” case now before the US Supreme Court

A case that has the potential to bring about more fairness in legislative elections  in Wisconsin and across the nation is now being heard by the US Supreme Court.

Excellent news has been announced today regarding the new Dane County Parental Leave Benefit.  In recent months our locals (2634, 1871, 720, 705 and 65) have discussed and requested a new paid leave benefit to help employees with new parental responsibilities.

Today, we joined Executive Parisi and Dane County Board members in celebrating the public announcement that the requested benefit will be added to the 2018 Dane County Budget and will be included in our 2018 benefit package.

Brothers and Sisters,

During the last few months, there have been many conversations about Council 32’s shift from a “service mindset” to an “organizing mindset.” At the last Executive Board meeting, the Board voted to begin rapidly shifting to an organizing mindset.

This change to an organizing mindset is overdue and necessary if we are going to be an effective and sustainable organization.
